Do I have to use luxury vinyl plank only for wood looks?

No, and that seems to be a common misconception so let's talk about it now. Both plank and luxury vinyl tile are two forms of luxury vinyl flooring (LVF) identical in material and essential construction.

How to use them is entirely up to you

Feel free to employ your personal design preference!  For example, LVP is cut into planks, so it's obviously associated with hardwood, but many also prefer it for stone echoes; they feel the larger format and fewer seams offer more of a quarried slab appearance. On the other hand, LVT is cut into square-tile-sized pieces, and, alternatively, many feel the extra seams add to the realism.

What is luxury vinyl?

This is a newer version of vinyl. LVF offers nature-inspired images of wood, stone, and tile taken with digital photography like the original. Micro beveling and embossing add depth, dimension, and textured looks, such as wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered, and distressed.

This vinyl can be cut into planks or squares, and, like the original, it follows all the trends.  It's also so realistic sometimes even the flooring experts have difficulty telling it from the real thing, but your wallet will know. That's because you won't pay nearly the same price as you would for genuine materials.

Waterproof & ultra-durable

This version is five times thicker than the original product. Multi-layered, at the top, is a clear, strong melamine sheet (wear layer) that protects the floors from scratches, scuffs and keeps spills from absorbing. On top of that is a clear urethane coating to add extra strength and shine.

Like all vinyl, this is low maintenance, only requiring regular sweeping and periodic mopping.  Installation can also be easy, especially when the floor floats, meaning that the pieces click together, mat, and then hover over the subfloor without nails or glue.
